Taking a boat safety training course is a sure fire way to help you pass the test on the first try. Our associates offer in-person training to make sure you have all the information you need. The course only takes about 3 hours and the exam takes 45 minutes. If you prefer, you can also take the boat safety training online, then book an appointment with an Ontario associate to take the boat operator exam in person.
Ontario draws boaters all throughout the year from all around the world to experience its many splendors. In the north, during the summer months, there is the James Bay, the Hudson Bay and access to the Atlantic Ocean. In the south, there are four of the Great Lakes: Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Ontario and Lake Superior. In between, boaters will experience a diverse array of opportunities, including tranquil waterways, where you can enjoy life at a leisurely pace, raging rivers, where you can test the rapids, and hundreds of lake. In the bays and lakes, visitors can enjoy various cruises and tours, and on the rivers, you can delight in the many riverboats, among other things.
All throughout the province, there are marinas, boat ramps and charters that allow the visitor to experience Ontario at the wheel. If you plan to do that, prepare in advance. Ontario requires a boat operator card by law. A card from any Canadian province will work, as will equivalent cards from the US. If you do not have a license, then the easiest way to acquire one is to take the test online. Wherever you take the test, a one-time fee covers the initial tests as well as unlimited retests, and then once you pass, Ontario sends the permanent card in the mall in 3-4 weeks. Temporary cards are also available as soon as you pass, so rushed for time, some like to schedule the exam near their destination in Ontario, and then take the test when they arrive. The temporary card provides full privileges.
