Pleasure Craft Operator Card Study Guide

The Canadian Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) study guide is available through BoaterExam.com®. You can sign up and complete the first chapter for free, and then sign up to complete the next four chapters. Each chapter ends with a quiz, which you’ll need to pass with 80%. Once you’ve completed the full 5-chapter study guide, you are ready to take the final exam!

Here are the details

1. Study the Online Course

You can study the course from home with no supervisor. Study at your own pace - you don't have to complete the course in one sessions, you can save your progress and sign back in at a later date. You can try chapter 1 for free, but need to pay a fee of $49.95 to gain access to the remaining 4 chapters. To proceed from chapter to chapter, you need to pass a 10 question end of chapter quiz with a score of 80%. Every question on each quiz has detailed illustrations to help explain the questions and answers. Perfect for visual learners! If you fail an end of chapter quiz, you need to study the chapter again before you attempt the quiz for a second time. You need to spend a minimum of 3 hours studying the course before you may proceed to the final exam, but each chapter is fully animated to enhance your learning experience and help you retain the information you need to pass your exam.

2. Take the Transport Canada Final Exam

Once you have completed studying the course, you may now attempt the Transport Canada final exam. The final consists of 50 multiple choice questions and you need a score of 75% to pass (38 correct answers) There is a time limit of 90 seconds per question or 85 minutes for the entire exam. The good news is that this is an open book exam, so you may use a resource to help you answer the questions. With the time limit however, you need to at least know where to find the information you are looking for. If you fail the final, you need to wait another 24 hours before attempting it again (but there is no fee for this). If you fail a second time, you need to study the entire course over again. If you pay attention the first time through the course, and study the full 3 hours, you should pass the final exam on your first attempt.

3. Get you Pleasure Craft Operator Card

Once you pass the final exam, you get your score immediately and are able to print a temporary certificate. This temporary card allows you to go boating right away while you wait for your permanent license to arrive (the permanent license usually arrives in 3-4 weeks). Your temporary card is good for 60 days, your permanent license is good for life! Once you have your card, you are legal to go boating across Canada and the United States!
